Welcome to Philly Summer Meals, a vital initiative dedicated to ensuring that no child in Philadelphia goes hungry during the summer months.
We provide free meals and snacks to kids and teens aged 18 and under, regardless of their family’s income, without the need for ID or registration.
This program is made possible through a combination of federal funding, local organizations, and the dedicated Philadelphians who step up to organize meal sites in their communities.
In Philadelphia, nearly 1 in 8 children experience food insecurity. When schools close for the summer, many students lose access to the nutritious meals they rely on during the school year.
Philly Summer Meals bridges this gap, offering a dependable source of healthy food for children across the city.
Whether it’s on a neighborhood block, within a community center, or at a local organization, our meal sites are safe havens where kids can enjoy nourishing food, stay active, and connect with their peers.
Our mission extends beyond simply providing meals. At Philly Summer Meals, we believe in the power of community and the difference it can make when we come together to support our youngest members.
By hosting a meal site, you can contribute to the well-being of children in your area, helping to foster a stronger, healthier community.
Philly Summer Meals is an initiative of the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, an organization founded in 1996 with a steadfast commitment to combating hunger and building a community where everyone has access to the food they need to lead healthy lives.
The Coalition connects people with vital food assistance programs and nutrition education, supports a network of food pantries, and advocates for responsible, sustainable solutions to end hunger.
Our approach to fighting hunger is threefold:
- Immediate Relief: We connect those in need to local food pantries and soup kitchens, often providing food the same day.
- Short-Term Relief: We assist individuals and families in applying for and obtaining SNAP (food stamp) benefits through our SNAP Hotline.
- Long-Term Relief: We advocate for policies that ensure those facing food insecurity have a voice in shaping effective, responsible solutions at both the local and national levels.
Join us in the fight against hunger by becoming a part of Philly Summer Meals. Together, we can ensure that every child in our community has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive, not just during the school year, but all year round.
